So I got a delivery from 'Sunday Morning' late yesterday, we had a great chat and discussed a few exciting things to follow, including photos from their recent shoot!

But you see I was far to eager to wait and after realising that I'd left my camera at home took these....we've got their new t-shirt designs, gorgeous fleece jumpers for you little ones and grey pillowcase sets for the boys.

Pillowcases have been released in grey marle for the boys...who apparently needed convincing of the greatness?! Anyway they look fabulous!

And you'll have to cope with a double up on photos once the girls have sent their professional pictures through.

One day a sweet girl came into our store and told us she was designing some stationary and would we be interested in seeing it...some time later she popped back in and in that time she had created 'Ask Alice'. Designed, printed, made in Melbourne which is quite an effort. We have just had a delivery from her in the past couple of weeks and if you've got some notes to jot or a memoir to scribe this is it. Beautiful fabric, hard covered books are just one of her off springs. Pop in to see other designs.

Country swap meet this weekend, and these were added to the family. I was working in the shop when an email came through quoting that there had been car purchases made, I was wondering how much more could possibly fit in the garage, and now I can happily try fit these in the toy box....also over flowing!

Long time Boroughs stockest, Kenji Uranishi has just let us know that he and his wife have been busy organising a project together raising money for the Red Cross Japan and Pacific Appeal 2011.

More than 20 artists have each donated work that will be auctioned on eBay starting on Friday 8th April 3pm (EST) and finishing Sunday 10th April at 8pm (EST).

Another gorgeous few days weather wise- hope as many of you out there are enjoying it!
We've had a few more spurts in the studio and are getting our way through making shoulder bags and more doorstops, as well as gift cards and tags. More photos to come once there finished.

Tomorrow I'm off around the corner to see Al at Otto and Spike to look at their winter range- exciting especially to those people that have already popped in to see if anything had arrived yet!

I'm about to purchase my sons first shoes (excitment) and he'll be sporting his very own pair of Chuck Taylors- but lucky for him they'll be soft canvas and not bone china, awkward.

He hopped into the shop last week with 11 of his coloured friends. Resin bunny trinket box has been lovingly crafted here in Melbourne by Amy.

Celebrating the local theme- these lovely new jewels are from Hope Street Studio(Brunswick) beauty Tara Lofhelm. Sterling, oxidised and gold plated silver are twisted and cast into a range of striking rings, studs and pendants.

It doesn't get much better when your makers can deliver their work on foot and thats just how it is for locals 'Otto & Spike'. This time the delivery has seen them delve into their archive of yarns, back to the 60's-70's for these great Japanese space dyed yarns.
Such a great combination has produced a slinky almost jewel like wrap in popping colours, red, pink and white; cobalt, pale blue and white and lastly a red number, suitable festive.

Another great delivery of bags made by a guy called....Matt! This year is an exciting year as its been 10, yes thats right ten years since Matt started producing his signature style, that by now has to be considered a Melbourne icon!

Included in the delivery are the cuisenaire rod bags in amazing colours. These little blocks or rods where once used in schools for teaching mathematics...but not in my days!

They have scanned a number of designs in and using their tricky digital printer, ta-da brand new look for an seemingly defunct product! Along with those bags we have some great Ink and Spindle fabrics again- raspberry and aqua in the Birch Forest design has been restocked after selling out!

I heard someone discussing their Christmas tree that was purchased last year at some expense- it was decided in their house that the tree was to go up on the first of December, to make the most of it you see.

We went for a mega walk on monday, sometimes its so great to just explore your neighborhood, we usually want to get away, maybe go for a drive to the beach and eat some fish and chips...only to get stuck in traffic on the way and spending the little family time we have in the car.

After 3 floors of trade fair carrying a 9kg baby there was light at the end of the tunnel. Not only some of the BEST products but an enthusiastic designer wanting to relieve me of said baby! Phew.

With free arms I discovered 'Mister Mista'. I think there was instant happiness here in this newly formed relationship, perfect boys Tees, amazing re-stickable decals and gift cards with some of the most amusing characters around!

So a month has passed and we have received a few new bits and pieces so included are a few snaps to excite you!

Rabbit & the Duck have been busy making small zipper purses and phone pouches- perfect for your fancy new phone perhaps! They fit perfectly!

It was only time before we got in some childrens wear- (thats what our friends said anyway!) Heres the first offering- from 'Sunday Morning', available are these sweet little tees- there is also another design available. We have got the latest pillowcase designs as well, these guys are making quite the name for themselves with these.

And finally some gorgeous new brooches from 'The gently unfurling sneak'. These have some great images printed onto fabric and finished in ply wood- genius!

And the shop is smelling fresh and fragrant with the delivery of soaps again- this time we have a few newbies. A lovely gardeners soap and one for the pet that you adore. Isn't it time to enjoy the bath during these cold, wet days!

So you want local? Made, designed and sold locally....this scarf makes us house proud! Shop keeper Kyle designed this snappy number as a part of the collaborative project. With echos from a past era this one is called 'Atomic'. We have been lucky to have it delivered in two styles!

The first is a double layer knit (super warm) available in 3 colourways which we also have it available in a single layer knit which is exclusive to us! Also, the colour below is available only through us, which is a great soft grey scale. Hehehe, exclusive!

Scotatto is a Melbourne based, Brunswick based accessories label. You know how we like locals, well, this clever girl is focussing on quality materials and playfully designing one off pieces. The name Scotatto was a nickname that her dad came up with when she was just a wee baby and while it was to describe the look of his new bundle of bliss (potato head) I can assure you that this little potato grew into a beautiful girl.

For the modernists out there, this one is for you!

These beauties are made from a fine Australian lambswool and are available in navy and white or a soft green and white.

To compliment these take a look at the next collaboration from Amber B. Currently in California, the Australian born designer has been influenced by the sweet, innocence of a country childhood upbringing.

We have been lucky to receive two designs, the one above perfect for riding on your very own fixie! Available in navy & white or olive & white.

The second design is 'Lire entre les lignes'- to read between the lines. Made of 100% merino wool these are so lovely and soft to wear. Available in charcoal & pink, black & yellow or grey & slate in scarves and beanies.

This scarf is not only to keep you warm it also features text in the design- quite the suggestive scarf!

Next collaboration comes from a Sydney based designer- Deuce Design. This scarf is made from merino lambswool, viscose and angora, called 'Tie Me Up'.

Like the tag suggests, "All over the world scarves are used as headpieces, short skirts, shoulder wraps, pillows, comforters, knee warmers and sometimes just a 'tie up'."

This one is a super soft, 2 colour, Jacquard knit in a cross stitch design and comes in yellow & lavender, slate & grey marle, indigo blue & berry and peach & charcoal.

Ok, so back to woolly goods, those who live in the local area (or any inner city suburb) are probably surrounded by development- some good, some bad. In Brunswick we still have a few actual factories producing an assortment of goods. So you might be asking what they have to do with a scarf- well, good design comes in many forms and the designs for 2 items in the range came from security frames on warehouses. Aptly named 'Grill' is a soft beanie made from lambswool (seen above) and back to 'Victor' whom comes from the city, Mitchell House in fact.

'Sunday Morning' is a Melbourne based label with a strong focus on illustration, producing an assortment of products including the jewels as seen above, kitty cat lovers!

With the winter weather sending people inside it has meant that we have received some lovely new deliveries from makers, including this sterling silver jewellery from Brunswick based lass 'Milly'. Playing with textures and repetitive patterns this is fresh, new work for her as well!

It feels like the type of work that is worn and loved already, think favorite pair of jeans. Brushed finishes, slight oxidising you could mix and match, pick a single piece or combine a few perhaps spots and stripes!

Thought it might be fun for those out there to see what people are buying. So, with a little convincing I got my first customer photo. This combination left the store on Sunday, a black and white 'Fleming', named so after the park in Brunswick E. and a 'Victor' in olive, (more on him later). Worn together, this is an indication of how cold it has been in Melbourne town already, and of things to come so drop by to pick up your winter woollies!

This is #2 in the collaborative project, designed by local resident, 'Wendy Voon'. Pictured above is 'Pendant' brought to life in a combination of pure merino and wool acetate mix yarns.

The design is a twist on the traditional argyle, Voon has removed elements recreating an abstract version available in black & silver, beige green, grey marle & yellow, charcoal & ruby, grey & purple.

Otto & Spike were lucky to have Voon design not 1 but 2 scarves for the project, the second is a smaller but by no means lesser addition.

The preppy "scarvette" named after the 1967 movie "The Graduate" again sees the designer play with the argyle styling. Look at this number and think; "modern American classics, slim fit fronted chinos, single button cord jacket.....loafers- preppy".

Do the Pixel Polka Dot! This scarf is one of the fine collaborations that came out of this years project put together at the Otto & Spike HQ.

The designer behind this is Rachel Kroussoratis who also completed an internship last year with O&S. This scarf sees a popping colour palette perfect for a cold winters days and draws on the designers love for strong graphics. Made with fine wool, modal and cashmere. Behind the great New York mural we will have a wintry, cardboard wonderland with the entire range from 'Otto & Spike'.

We have a gorgeous new card range 'Peeping Tom | Paper' and jewellery from 'Brooke Johnston Design' who uses vintage fabrics to fashion hook and stud earrings as well as hair pins.

The ever creative 'Mattt' has delivered us a fab new range of his shoulderbags, and with this delivery we have seen some updates, one to mention is the popular mini shoulder bags now have internal pockets (mobiles/wallets/pens).

We also have two NEW styles a travel zip pouch, perfect for those few special items for the weekend away or perhaps an everyday pencil case or make up bag...and at the other end of the scale is the oversize shoulder bag. This is big enough to carry a 15" laptop features extra internal pockets and (listen up mums) has been a very popular alternative as a nappy bag, tres chic! And to quote Matts website write up "basically if what you want to carry won't fit, you probably shouldn't be carrying it on your shoulder."

The shop has been receiving all sorts of deliveries in the past few weeks and we have been slighty pre occupied....we promise to be better at keeping you up to date!

Firstly here is by far the BEST delivery (sorry to our lovely stockist....yes we are biased!)

And he finally has a name, Charlie!

But back to the shop, 'Dick and Dora' have just sent us a delightful package including some old favorites and some brand new designs they have been busily making. We have some cute little timber wrens and the 'birds on a wire' brooch have made a come back and then there are the new pieces, see below.

'Hook Turn' silicone cups have been selling well and we have just got more in, perfect for that early coffee on the go!

'Shonah' has sent us some new gorgeous timber and fabric pendants as well.

And 'Mingus Designs' have dropped off some of their gorgeous linen bags as well as fabric covered button badges, below.

If you were wondering what's with the lack of action on the blog lately, and why is the shop door shut when ever I go past?

Well the reason is justified, we have been closed this week as we have had the arrival of our first child.

We know a few friends and customers are keen to know....... so here it is, its a boy.

Although we are not well rested, we are reopening the store Saturday the 6th Feb, and will be back to regular trading hours (with some help).

crazy for teapots

We are always open to deliveries made from family members, but this time it was double happiness when the boxes were opened and we found these beautiful teapots from South Australia. You all know how much we love these ceramics, as it's a range that we've had since day dot...but they seem to have also found a welcome spot in the hearts of others here in Melbourne too which is just wonderful!

This week we also received a delivery of the ever popular 'Melbourne Design Guide', perfect read to find that new little spot near you or perhaps a list of places to visit on the other side of the river..... we dare you!

Happy to report that the 'Martha Goes Green' recipe book has come back in, ready for you to whip up some summer treats, mmm.

Klei is well known for their beautiful use of sterling silver and porcelain in their jewellery range, they do however occasionally sway and use some stainless steel and have come up with the beauties- the animal kingdom.

We've had a great response regarding the 'Make Stuff' Tree lamps that were featured in The Age last weekend, so much so we've just had a new delivery of them. Pop by while the full range is in store and available.

Also this week we are happy to welcome LAB305, Melbourne makers x 7! They produce a great range of brooches, rings, studs and necklaces. We have their timber range in and already they're being pinned to shirts and wrapped as gifts. Making shapes other than birds, you could try cassette tape studs, a cup of fries brooch or a speaking bubble ring.... the choice is yours really!

We are again happily welcoming some new stockist into store. The first is a new recipe book from 3 gorgeous, local girls with a passion for food- but even better it's vegetarian! With lovely photography and illustrations the book comes in it's own little calico bag, ta-da the perfect gift.

But one thing that makes this so much fun is the use of vintage fabrics, plates and cups, it feels like you're looking at photos from past dinner parties- however with some more styling!
